Competition to engage consumers on the Internet is intense, and systems that use big data in real-time can help enterprises create a richer user experience. Enterprise developers can learn valuable lessons from Internet pioneers. Second only to high frequency trading when it comes to low latency, real-time bidding platforms have fewer than 100 milliseconds to win a bid and serve an ad and Aerospike is the database of choice for these companies.

The emerging architecture for platforms that store context on billions of users and personalize messages in real-time consists of a real-time engine, a front-edge operational database with an overwhelmingly key-value access pattern, combined with models and insights generated using offline systems like Hadoop. We will present the technical system architecture of such a high performance database in the context of Aerospike’s numerous deployments at 1M+ TPS.

Brian Bulkowski is Aerospike's co-founder and CTO. Brian has 20-plus years experience designing, developing and tuning networking systems and high-performance Web-scale infrastructures.
