Postgres has advanced significantly in recent releases to now support virtually all of today’s unstructured and semi-structured data types. Advances in Postgres enable this proven enterprise DBMS to address many evolving demands from unstructured and semi-structured data by supporting NoSQL capabilities and even federating data from multiple databases within a relational environment. Doing so within Postgres minimizes data silos by centralizing application business logic and supporting centralization, enhances IT control by minimizing solution sprawl, and helps IT professionals ensure the long-term viability of organizational data.

This talk will explore the capabilities -- such as JSON and JSONB "binary JSON" for supporting document databases and the HStore data type for key/value stores - within Postgres to let users address more data problems instead of having to introduce new solutions, which ultimately means lower costs, less risk and less complexity while delivering enterprise-class, NoSQL workloads with ACID compliance.


Before joining EnterpriseDB, Marc spent almost 4 years at Polycom, the leading maker of video communications equipment, focusing on the Services Supply Chain, Business Intelligence, Customer Data Management and Cloud Solutions. Prior to Polycom, Marc lead a supply chain consulting and systems integration company working with customers in the US, Canada, France, Germany and Switzerland. This tapped the expertise he developed at Avicon Group, where he spent six years, first as chief technology officer then as vice president of operations, developing an extensive background in management, business consulting, systems integration, data management and business intelligence. Marc holds a Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat) in Computer Sciences from the University of Kaiserslautern in Germany.
